Hi Darla,
Awesome question about where I'm keeping bills - yes, they are on my calendar. I use Google Calendar and have a separate calendar for each area of my life, such as: Business, Finances, Fun, Spiritual, Health. The purpose of the separate calendars is 1) it gets to be color-coded which I really like and 2) I can hide any calendar I don't want to see (or have others see). So most of the time "Finances" tends to be hidden so that I'm not looking at what day I pay my cell phone bill all the time. Then during a Financial Review, all the other calendars can be hidden so I just focus on money coming in and going out. Oh and in terms of bill payment, I automate almost everything so what I'm seeing is just a reminder that things will be paid automatically, and that helps me to check and confirm that it was actually done.
Thanks for your thoughtful comment! I will have to check out Quicken for Mac, too.

Hi Lisa,
I really like this idea. I've used Mint.com in the past but now use Quicken for the Mac. I think they must have made it better since I last used it so I may check it out again. For the calendar that you use, do you mean that you enter all your bills on a calendar that you see every day? Or do you use a calendar in Mint.com or some other financial tracking software? Just curious about that. I use Quicken's scheduler for that.
Thanks again. I love the idea of using Google forms/spreadsheet for checklists. Hadn't thought of that one before!

Thanks for a GREAT list! I know it's so difficult to narrow it down to such a short list. I've been asking people for their short list for about a year now, and it's a great way to learn a lot about a person. I've been pleasantly surprised that a lot of fiction books show up on people's list of "most life-changing" books.

So... of the list above, which book do you most want to re-read, and why?

Hi Lisa,

Thanks! I'm not sure I could hone my list to an essential 3 - but the first (OK 5!) that pop into my head are:

1) The Hero's Journey by Carol S Pearson
2) The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman
3 & 4) Mastery of Love and The Voice of Knowledge: A Practical Guide to Inner Peace by Don Miguel Ruiz
5) The Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff

Oh - and 6) The 4 Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss (I don't agree with everything but the concepts are great)

And then I read that it could include poetry, fiction, memoir! I'm not even going to think about it or my list will grow to 15 before I blink!

Warmly, EL

Thank you for using the reminder and for sharing it with us! As a teacher I'd guess you get more like 8 interruptions per minute instead of one per 8 minutes for managers.

The part about leaving work later than anticipated, that would be the area to focus on #1 Minimize Interruptions by having more up-front communication about what does or doesn't work for you. In the moment, there's also the opportunity to say, "let's continue this conversation at a later time when I can give you my full undivided attention." Just an idea you can try out and see if it fits in this type of situation. It may or may not.

Thanks so much for this reminder. I was experiencing this today a lot. I remembered that the person asking for something was more important than what I had been doing. With this, it was a blessing, though I did leave work later than I had anticipated.

Thanks, Lisa! Great perspective!

We at TaskRabbit believe (as you do) that, contrary to our original fears, technology is allowing us to more easily connect with our neighbors and yes, ultimately satisfying that human need to just "belong."

We often hear from members of our community, who are re-discovering (or frankly meeting for the first time) people in their own neighborhood as a result of TaskRabbit. It is really reminiscent of the time when the teenage boy next door helped wash cars or mowed the lawn. Or when there was the "neighborhood babysitter," who you could call on to come watch the kids for an hour as you ran to the supermarket. We are hopeful that we are playing an key role in bringing this back.
